Pantry AI Coming soon

Privacy Policy

Last updated:

Pantry AI helps you plan meals from what you already have at home. This policy explains, in plain language, what information the app handles, why, who helps us process it, and what you can do about it.

The short version: we use your information to run the app and nothing else. We do not show ads, we do not sell your data, and we do not use third-party advertising or tracking tools.

What we collect and why

Your account

You sign in with your email address (using a one-time code), or with Sign in with Apple or Google. Sign-in is handled by our authentication provider, Clerk, which stores your email address and the details needed to keep you signed in. Our own servers store only the account identifier Clerk gives us, which we use to link your data to you.

Your household preferences

To make meal plans that suit your household, we store on our servers what you tell us during setup and in settings: names or nicknames for household members, food likes, favourite chefs or cuisines, allergies and dietary needs, how simple or ambitious recipes should be, cooking style, preferred language, and your plan settings (such as which days to plan and how many portions).

Allergy and dietary information can be sensitive. We use it only to shape your recipes. Please only enter what you are comfortable sharing.

Your pantry

Your pantry list is kept in the app on your device. When you ask for a meal plan or chat with the app, the pantry items are sent to our servers along with the request so the plan can use them. We do not keep a separate copy of your pantry list on our servers, but each recipe we save does record which of your pantry ingredients it uses.

Meal plans and recipes

We store your current and past meal plans on our servers: the recipes, their ingredients and steps, your grocery list, which days they are for, and whether you marked a recipe as cooked. This is so your plans are available across sessions and devices and your history is kept.

Photos of your pantry or fridge

If you take or choose a photo, it is sent to our servers and passed straight on to OpenAI so the AI can see what ingredients you have. We do not store your photos on our servers. The photo itself stays on your device. The meal plan we save on our servers records where the photo is on your device, so the app can show it to you again, but never the photo’s contents.

Messages you type

What you type in the app’s chats (for example, “something quick on Tuesday”) is sent to our servers and to OpenAI to produce a response. The conversation history is kept in the app on your device.

Subscription status

If you subscribe, the purchase goes through Apple, and RevenueCat tells us whether your subscription is active. We store your subscription level, a RevenueCat customer identifier, and weekly usage counts (how many plans and adjustments you have made) to apply plan limits. We never see your payment card or billing details.

Error and performance information

We use Sentry to find and fix crashes and bugs, both in the app and on our servers. When something goes wrong, Sentry receives technical details such as the error, the device and app version, and what the app was doing. Sentry may also receive your IP address and account identifier. For a small share of app sessions, and for sessions in which an error happens, Sentry records a replay of the screens you saw, so we can understand what went wrong. On our servers, Sentry also receives performance measurements for a sample of requests.

How AI is used

Meal plans, recipes, recipe adjustments and chat replies are written by OpenAI’s models. To do that, we send OpenAI the information relevant to your request: your household preferences (including allergies and dietary needs), your pantry items, your messages, any photos you attach, and, when adjusting a plan, the plan itself. We do not send your email address.

We also use OpenAI to translate the app’s own interface text into other languages. That contains no personal information.

Who processes your information

We use these service providers to run the app. Each receives only what it needs for its job:

We do not sell your information, share it with advertisers, or use it to build advertising profiles.

How long we keep it

We keep your account information, household preferences, meal plans and subscription record for as long as your account is active, and delete them when you delete your account in the app or ask us to. Information held by the providers above is kept according to their own retention policies.

Deleting your data and your rights

You can delete your account inside the app: open Settings and tap Delete account. Deletion is immediate and permanent. It removes the data we store about you (your household preferences, meal plans, recipes, history and subscription record) and your sign-in account. Deleting your account does not cancel an Apple subscription; cancel it in your Apple ID settings.

You can also email privacy@pantry-ai.app from the address you sign in with (or tell us which Apple or Google account you use) to have your account and data deleted, or to ask for a copy of the data we store about you. We will confirm when it is done.

Depending on where you live, you may have further rights, such as correcting your information, objecting to how it is used, or complaining to your local data protection authority. Contact us and we will help.

Uninstalling the app removes the information stored on your device, but not what is stored on our servers. To remove that, use Settings → Delete account in the app before you uninstall it.

Children

Pantry AI is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle your information, we will update this page and the date at the top.
